Five runners are ready to start, but the middle runner faces the opposite direction. Label the odd one out and the rest of the field to show a confident start toward the wrong goal.
Everyone looks prepared, yet one person has misunderstood the basic direction. The joke is about effort going into the wrong task before the race has even begun.
It can also represent deliberately choosing a different path. Your labels decide whether the middle runner is confused, distracted, or simply following a different priority.
Put one short label on the middle runner in the white shirt. Use the open track to the right for the group or shared goal represented by the other runners.
Choose a clear contrast in direction: following instructions versus improvising, or sticking to a plan versus heading toward a distraction. Leave the runners’ poses visible.
