The fish recognize an obvious trap, but one swims straight toward it anyway. Put an irresistible offer on the blank sign hanging above the hook.
The first panel establishes that the trick is easy to spot. The lower panels show someone unable to resist despite that warning.
The bait can be a sale, a tempting notification, or a promise that sounds too convenient. A joke about your own weak spot works as well as a joke about someone else’s.
SrGrafo published “The Bait” template on Reddit on November 8, 2019. The three-panel comic contrasts fish dismissing an obvious hook with another fish getting caught. This template uses a colored version of that comic. [1]
Readers filled the blank area with different temptations. Early examples included a joke about SrGrafo and a version about clicking pop-up advertisements; other subreddits shared variations during the following week. [1]
Add one short promise inside the white rectangle in the upper-right panel. Keep the hook and all three fish scenes unchanged.
The offer should be appealing enough to explain the fish’s behavior, while still looking like something it ought to question.
