Also called Dodgson Nobody Cares · Jurassic Park Nobody Cares · Dennis Nedry Nobody Cares
Dennis Nedry announces something to a restaurant, then points out the lack of interest. Use the two panels to deflate a boast or an announcement that never needed an audience.
The first panel makes a big public announcement. The second treats the crowd’s indifference as the answer. It is a dismissal, not a surprised reaction.
The joke works best when the announcement is harmless and self-important. You can also aim it at yourself: a personal achievement that your friends have no reason to understand.
In Jurassic Park (1993), Dennis Nedry, played by Wayne Knight, meets Lew Dodgson at a restaurant. Dodgson asks him not to use his name. Nedry loudly announces it to the other diners to demonstrate that nobody is paying attention. [1]
The online remix predates the familiar two-panel caption format. Know Your Meme traces a YTMND parody to March 13, 2007, and the image macro to a November 25, 2012 Meme Generator submission. The introductory “See?” was added in meme captions. [1]
Nedry turns Dodgson’s request for discretion into a loud announcement. [1]
Know Your Meme documents keatonkeaton999’s Dodgson (fun times mix). [1]
Meme Generator hosts the caption format that pairs an announcement with the dismissal. [1]
Place the announcement at the bottom of the upper panel. Keep “See? Nobody cares.” in the lower panel, or replace it with a similarly short response.
Writing the announcement as something Nedry shouts about another person makes the image read like the scene. A specific, minor boast gives the response a clearer target than a long argument.
