Rick Harrison’s bargaining style becomes a reply to an optimistic request. State what someone wants, then offer a smaller amount, an inconvenient substitute, or something that barely meets the request at all.
The humor comes from the gap between the request and the offer. The response sounds like the final word in a negotiation, even when it is plainly disappointing.
You can bargain over more than a price. Sleep, free time, meeting length, and delivery charges all work if the reader can immediately see why the counteroffer falls short.
Rick Harrison frequently uses the phrase while negotiating purchases on Pawn Stars. The History series, whose first episodes aired in July 2009, follows deals at a pawn shop; the meme borrows the moment when an item’s hoped-for value meets the buyer’s lower offer. [1] [2]
Early Rick Harrison image macros paired expensive-sounding items with tiny offers. Know Your Meme documents a surviving post record from April 2012 and later versions that use the same counteroffer structure beyond buying and selling. The exact first meme is not available in that record. [2]

A documented r/dankmemes post uses the familiar bargaining joke years after its early image-macro versions. [2]
Place the request across the dark shirts below the faces. Use the lower caption for the counteroffer, beginning with the familiar bargaining phrase if it helps the joke.
Make the difference concrete. A number, a smaller benefit, or an obvious inconvenience gives the reader more to work with than a vague refusal.
