An unusually quiet chat
A silent chat could reflect other people’s schedules or a local connection problem.

Also called Futurama Fry · Suspicious Fry · Not Sure If or Just
Fry narrows his eyes while weighing two explanations. Start with “Not sure if…” at the top and offer the alternative below, leaving the suspicion unresolved.
The expression turns uncertainty into an internal investigation. The first explanation often sounds flattering or reassuring; the second offers a less impressive possibility.
Both explanations should fit the same observation. A quiet chat could mean everyone is busy or that your connection has failed. Keeping either answer possible makes the squint feel justified.
The image comes from the Futurama episode “The Lesser of Two Evils,” first aired on February 20, 2000. Fry makes the expression during his suspicious search for Flexo; Know Your Meme identifies the still used by the format. [1] [2]
The “Not sure if” caption pattern was circulating in 2011 after the still had also been used for “I see what you did there” reactions. In June 2012, Futurama itself acknowledged the meme in promotion and an opening-sequence gag. [2]
The Lesser of Two Evils includes Fry’s suspicious expression. [1] [2]
Meme generators and AdviceAnimals posts reuse Fry’s squint for uncertainty. [2]
Futurama promotion and an opening gag use the familiar caption format. [2]
Place the first possibility above Fry’s eyes and the alternative below his chin. Keep the narrow-eyed expression unobstructed.
Use “Not sure if…” and “or…” to connect the two captions. Make both explanations refer to the same thing, and save the more doubtful interpretation for the second line.
