Also called Sad Soldier · Exhausted Knight · Demon’s Souls Knight
An armored knight sits slumped against a wall beside a shield full of arrows. Give the exhaustion a smaller cause: a long workday, one unfinished chore, or a victory that cost too much effort.
The knight has stopped moving, which makes this a reaction to what already happened. The armor suggests preparation and strength, but the posture says that those reserves are gone.
The caption can describe a real grind or exaggerate a minor inconvenience. The gap between a battlefield and your everyday problem is often enough to supply the joke.
Although meme catalogs call it Downcast Dark Souls, this picture is cover artwork from the original Demon’s Souls. The seated knight appears on the Japanese PlayStation 3 release from February 5, 2009, and on the North American Deluxe Edition packaging. [1]
Contemporary coverage of Demon’s Souls discussed the exhausted knight on its cover. The meme uses that visible fatigue for a captioned reaction, but a reliable first upload for this specific template is not established by the sources here. [2] [3]
Put a short caption on the dark wall to the left of the helmet. Keep the bowed head, resting arms, and arrow-filled shield visible so the pose carries the reaction.
A specific last straw works better than a general statement about being tired. You can also describe finishing something and immediately discovering that there is more to do.
