A dog sits calmly in a burning room and insists that everything is fine. Name the situation that makes this reassuring response clearly unconvincing.
The visible disaster contradicts the calm words. The dog can represent denial, forced composure, or carrying on while a situation gets out of hand.
The caption only needs to establish what is going wrong. The flames and the existing speech bubble already show the gap between the facts and the response.
KC Green published Gunshow comic 648, “On Fire,” on January 9, 2013. It features the character Question Hound calmly sitting in a burning room. The full six-panel strip continues past the familiar pair of images, with the dog’s condition getting much worse. [1] [2]
The first two panels circulated separately as a reaction image. Know Your Meme records an April 2013 post on 4chan and a January 2014 Reddit post that used the scene to describe university stress. [2]
Add the situation across the smoke at the top of the left panel. Keep the dog, flames, and “This is fine” speech bubble visible.
Use a specific pressure such as an overcrowded deadline or a failing project. The shorter the setup, the sooner the reader reaches the dog’s implausibly calm response.
