Bill Clinton approaches with open arms while Barack Obama holds a hand to his face. Label the enthusiasm on the left and the person dealing with it on the right.
The contrasting poses can stand for two different moods in the same situation. One side is ready with an idea or entrance; the other appears to need a moment.
Labels can turn the photograph into an everyday comparison about timing. An eager suggestion arriving near a deadline is enough; the joke does not have to be about politics.
Photographer Drew Angerer captured Obama and Clinton during a joint appearance in the White House briefing room about a tax-bill compromise in 2010. Angerer included the photograph in a blog post published that December. [1]
The photograph reached Reddit in April 2012 and became the basis of the Inappropriate Timing Bill Clinton caption series. Many early examples used political or scandal-related jokes; the contrast between the two poses also supports everyday comparisons. [1] [2]
A post about Obama and the lame-duck Congress includes the briefing-room image. [1]
A photograph post and replies introduce the image to a wider meme audience. [1]
Quickmeme hosts the Inappropriate Timing Bill Clinton format. [1]
Put the enthusiastic role over Clinton’s lower torso on the left. Put the burdened or unimpressed role below Obama’s face on the right. Keep both faces and the open-arm gesture visible.
Choose a situation that connects the labels without extra dialogue. A deadline, a crowded windowsill, or somebody ready to go home can explain the contrast immediately.
