Asked whether they are friends, one person says no while the other says yes. Label the pair to show a relationship, alliance, or arrangement that only one side seems to believe in.
The opposite answers expose a mismatch in expectations. The person on the right assumes the relationship is working; the person on the left does not share that view.
You can label people, pets, or things that refuse to cooperate. A person and their code, or a shopper and their budget, can disagree just as clearly as two characters.
The exchange comes from “Alter Ego,” a Star Trek: Voyager episode first aired on January 15, 1997. Marayna asks whether Harry Kim and Tuvok are friends. Kim answers yes, while Tuvok answers no. [1] [2]

Leave the question and both printed answers intact. The labels should make the disagreement clear without changing the dialogue.
