Everyone Loses Their Minds Meme Template

The Joker points out that two similar situations get very different reactions. Put the accepted behavior at the top and the supposedly outrageous alternative below.

The format is a complaint about inconsistent reactions. One thing passes without comment, while a related thing somehow causes a scene.

The comparison can be playful rather than serious. Food choices, meeting lengths, and household expectations offer familiar contradictions without needing a long argument.

The still comes from The Dark Knight, released in 2008. Heath Ledger’s Joker visits Harvey Dent in the hospital disguised as a nurse and argues that people react differently to violence depending on whom it affects. [1]

Know Your Meme dates the “Joker Mind Loss” Quickmeme page to April 14, 2012. Captioned versions contrast two related actions, with the second producing the exaggerated public reaction. More examples circulated in Reddit’s AdviceAnimals community in 2013. [1]

Use the dark strip at the top for the accepted situation and the strip below for the one that causes an uproar. Keep both lines brief enough to leave the Joker’s face and hands clear.

The two situations need a recognizable connection. Naming both reactions makes the double standard easy to see, even when the comparison is deliberately silly.
