Our Story

Supermeme.ai started in January 2022 as a WhatsApp group between three people who hadn’t met in person: Sanjeev NC, Nico Botha, and Ramsri Golla. The original goal was small — build an AI meme generator, mostly because it sounded like a fun thing to ship in the pre-ChatGPT era. There was no funding round, no office, and no marketing budget. There still isn’t a funding round or an office. There still isn’t a marketing budget.

A year in, the goal had already outgrown itself. The team kept building the same way it started — asynchronously, mostly over WhatsApp — and kept growing the same way it always had: by using memes to market a meme company, from personal accounts, in public, before there was a company account worth following.

Our Mission

The mission is the one the team wrote down in year one, just sharper now: break the monotony in marketing. Every category ends up looking and sounding the same — the same blog structure, the same stock photography, the same feed of corporate sameness. Humor is the most reliable pattern break available, and memes are its sharpest form.

Supermeme’s job is to remove the one thing standing between a person with an idea and a meme that lands: you don’t have to be funny, you just need the idea. The template, the caption, the placement, the cultural context — that’s the product’s job, not yours. See the mechanics in The 5 Elements of a Meme.

The Numbers

Supermeme.ai launched in February 2022 and reached 100,000 signups within its first year — entirely organic, without spending a dollar on paid acquisition. More than a million signups have followed since, generating over fifteen million AI memes. What hasn’t changed: 1,000+ hand-curated templates, and still $0 in ad spend.
