This Oscars photograph became a two-label template for a sudden interruption. Put the plan or expectation on the left and the thing that disrupts it on the right.
In captioned versions, Chris Rock represents what gets interrupted and Will Smith represents the interruption. Short labels turn the physical motion into an abrupt setback.
The image records a real incident. The examples here use fictional comparisons between everyday problems, such as a forgotten deadline and a quiet evening.
During the 94th Academy Awards on March 27, 2022, Will Smith walked onto the stage and slapped presenter Chris Rock after a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head. [1]
Photographs and broadcast footage circulated that night. People added labels, overlaid game graphics, and redrew the figures as other characters. This template uses a photograph of the incident rather than a scene from a film. [1]
Label the left figure with a plan, feeling, or assumption. Label the right figure with the event that abruptly changes it.
Place both captions on the dark suits, away from the faces and extended hand. Short phrases keep the direction of the interruption clear.
