Carly asks what Spencer has brought home. He answers “A smoothie,” leaving the ostrich unexplained. Label the person asking and the obvious thing being avoided.
The reply addresses a harmless detail while ignoring the much bigger reason for the question. The ostrich stands for the thing everyone can already see.
The humor needs both parts: a conspicuous problem or addition, and someone acting as though a small, innocent answer settles the matter.
The exchange comes from the iCarly episode “iMeet Fred,” first broadcast on Nickelodeon on February 16, 2009. Spencer has bought an ostrich named Marvin. When Carly asks what he has, he identifies the drink in his hand. [1]
Miranda Cosgrove plays Carly and Jerry Trainor plays Spencer. The template keeps the question and answer in place, letting labels change what the unexplained ostrich represents. [1]
The episode introduces the smoothie reply and Marvin the ostrich. [1]
Know Your Meme records a three-panel version posted to FunnyJunk by ghettohunter. [1]
A Tumblr post by goddessofidiocy uses the exchange for a Marvel-related comparison. [1]
Use the upper-left label for whoever asks the question. Put the unexplained purchase, project, or problem beside the ostrich in the lower panel.
The original dialogue is part of the image. Leave it readable, along with the bird’s head and Spencer’s drink; those details complete the joke.
