Three people sit on a branch while two saw at it. Below, a cartoon character cuts into the whole trunk. Compare a bad idea with an even broader version of it.
Both pictures show actions that undermine the structure around the people doing them. The second panel raises the stakes by moving from one branch to the trunk itself.
Use the top picture for a limited mistake and the bottom picture for a much larger one. This is a comparison between two images, not a before-and-after sequence of the same event.
Caption the open blue area below the branch with the first mistake. Put the bigger version in the open space at the upper left of the lower picture.
Keep both captions about the same kind of decision. The comparison is easier to follow when the second action removes much more of the thing the first action damaged.
