Tony Stark stands under stage lights with his arms out, ready for applause. Give that grand entrance a small everyday achievement and let the celebration exceed the accomplishment.
The pose invites an audience to appreciate what just happened. A caption can celebrate a real win or playfully demand credit for something as minor as remembering a shopping bag.
The bright lights and formal suit add ceremony. The joke often comes from applying that scale of presentation to a task that normally passes without comment.
Robert Downey Jr. plays Tony Stark in the 2010 film Iron Man 2. Near the beginning, Tony makes a showy entrance at the Stark Expo, emerging from his armor onto a stage. Paramount released a clip of the Expo scene as part of the film’s promotion. [1] [2]
The arms-out still circulates as Tony Stark Success. The Daily Dot’s survey of Downey reaction memes identifies the pose as a way to announce success, including modest everyday achievements. [3]
Robert Downey Jr. returns as Tony Stark in the sequel, which includes the Stark Expo sequence. [1]
Put the achievement along the bottom of the image and keep the outstretched arms visible. A short past-tense statement makes it feel like Tony is accepting the audience’s response.
Choose either a sincere milestone or a deliberately minor success. For the second approach, the simpler the achievement, the more the stage setting does for the joke.
