A child offers a reassuring idea, and his father dismisses it as something a particular group would say. Write a reasonable claim above a reply that exposes the speaker’s bias.
The first panel sounds sincere. The second refuses to consider the claim and instead blames the people who might believe it. That leap is what makes the reply funny.
The father does not have to be right. The format is useful for teasing a preference, a flimsy excuse, or your own unwillingness to change your mind.
The two panels feature Jim Carrey as Fletcher Reede and Justin Cooper as his son Max in the 1997 comedy Liar Liar. Max repeats his teacher’s idea that real beauty is on the inside. Fletcher answers by dismissing the saying as something unattractive people tell themselves. [1] [2]
Caption edits reuse the structure of that exchange: an earnest statement followed by a cynical explanation of who would say it. This version leaves both panels blank so the subject and the comeback can change together. [3]
The film provides the father-and-son exchange used by the template. [1]
Put a sincere statement near the bottom of the upper panel. In the lower panel, finish the phrase That’s just something… with the people or things supposedly responsible for the claim.
Choose a group tied directly to the setup, such as people who enjoy meetings or machines that take ages to load. The connection should be obvious without extra backstory.
