A woman adjusts her glasses as she looks at a laptop in surprise. Pair an ordinary online task with an unexpected discovery.
The expression fits confusion, disbelief, or surprise at something on a screen. Your caption supplies what she has just read or found.
The established character is called Internet Grandma, but the joke need not depend on age. Anyone can be surprised by a hidden fee, a strange menu, or an unexpectedly revealing search result.
Know Your Meme identifies the source as a stock photograph titled “Elderly Woman Looking at Computer Screen,” dated December 21, 2005. Reddit users were captioning the image as Internet Grandma on February 4, 2011. [1]
The format returned in later Advice Animals posts. A January 2013 joke about confusing Netflix with a television channel received particular attention and was included in meme roundups. [1]
Put the setup near the top and the discovery at the bottom. Leave the woman’s eyes, glasses, and expression visible.
Keep the two lines connected: first explain what she expected to do, then reveal the confusing or surprising result.
