Also called Jeremy Clarkson Anyway · Top Gear Oh No Anyway · Clarkson Pretending to Care
Jeremy Clarkson briefly looks concerned, then moves straight on. Add the news that gets a polite reaction but very little actual sympathy.
The sudden change in expression makes the first response look performative. The speaker acknowledges the news and immediately returns to whatever matters more to them.
Use it for news with little personal consequence or for your own minor setback. The humor is in how quickly the concern disappears.
The exchange comes from Top Gear, series 11, episode 2, broadcast on June 29, 2008. James May announces a delay to the Dacia Sandero, and Jeremy Clarkson gives a brief alarmed response before changing the subject. [1]
Know Your Meme documents a two-panel reaction posted by Reddit user Mormislaw on May 13, 2020. Other Reddit communities used the same quick change of mood for new situations over the following months. [1]
Put the setup to the left of Clarkson in the top panel. The existing “Oh no!” and “Anyway” text already provides the response.
You only need one short statement. Avoid adding a second punchline that competes with the abrupt change in mood.
