Also called I Know That Feel · Wojak Hug · That Feel Bro
Two drawn figures share a quiet hug. Give them a small disappointment or struggle they both understand, and let the embrace supply the sympathy.
The gesture says that someone else has been through the same thing. It suits the relief of finding another person who understands a frustrating task, an awkward moment, or an everyday loss.
The humor can come from treating a minor inconvenience with great tenderness. Both people are on the same side; the joke is the shared experience.
The drawing belongs to the early Wojak reaction-image family. The embracing figures appeared with the phrase “I know that feel, bro” on 4chan by January 27, 2011, offering recognition of someone else’s experience. [1]
The phrase later accompanied other pairs of characters. In January 2012, artist Paper Beats Scissors began a Tumblr illustration series using the same idea of characters recognizing a feeling they shared. [1]
Put one caption in the white space above the figures. Describe the common experience directly, leaving the face and the hands visible.
A specific detail makes the sympathy easier to recognize. Forgetting to save a file is clearer than a caption about having a bad day.
