A laughing toddler clasps his hands like a tiny plotter. Give him an innocent setup and a mischievous plan, making a small household nuisance sound carefully calculated.
The caption invents a villain’s inner monologue for an ordinary childhood moment. A hidden remote or an inconvenient nap becomes part of a grand scheme.
The joke comes from pretending the timing was deliberate. Keep the mischief small and playful; the child in the photograph is a character in the caption, not evidence of bad intentions.
On October 19, 2012, Reddit user altmedsol shared the photograph in r/pics under the title Evil Plan. That same day, tattedspyder posted a captioned version to r/AdviceAnimals, giving the toddler a mischievous internal monologue. [1]
Humor-site roundups followed, and the format also spread in Polish as Złowrogi Brzdąc, or Sinister Toddler. These captions created the scheming persona; they do not describe what the child was actually thinking. [1]
The photograph and an early advice-animal caption appear on the same day. [1]
Know Your Meme records roundups from The Huffington Post and Pleated Jeans. [1]
Złowrogi Brzdąc collects versions of the toddler’s fictional plans. [1]
Set up the opportunity at the top, then reveal the plan at the bottom. Write in the first person if you want the caption to sound like the toddler’s thoughts.
Keep the face and clasped hands recognizable. A remote, a bedtime delay, or choosing the worst moment for a nap can carry the whole joke.
