- The opening thought
- What if autocorrect
- The theory
- Is writing its own novel?
Start with “What if” and follow an ordinary detail to an absurd conclusion. The startled face makes the thought seem like a major discovery.
The caption sounds as though it has uncovered a secret explanation for something familiar. Autocorrect, a loading bar, or the screw left after assembling furniture can become the subject of a ridiculous theory.
Keep the theory clearly playful. The image works well when the conclusion is far too elaborate for the small thing that prompted it.
The still shows Keanu Reeves as Ted in the 1989 comedy Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. Know Your Meme traces the frame to a scene involving medieval knights and records it in a 2008 Vulture slideshow of Reeves’s expressions. [1]
The image later became a reaction face and a caption format for strange “what if” questions. The archive documents a captioned Reddit post on June 2, 2011. [1]
Vulture includes the Ted frame in a collection of Keanu Reeves’s expressions. [1]
A documented Reddit post turns the startled look into an absurd speculative question. [1]
The format appears in online compilations and a dedicated Facebook page. [1]
Put the opening thought above the face and the strange conclusion below it. The bottom line should change how the reader interprets the ordinary thing you named.
Keep it to one question. Extra explanations make the thought feel like an argument instead of a sudden, slightly ridiculous idea.
