What does Captain Hindsight mean?
Announce the obvious precaution after the problem has already happened. The raised finger adds confidence to advice that arrived too late.
Captain Hindsight has the answer once it can no longer prevent the mistake. Use the top line to describe a mishap and the bottom line for the uselessly late recommendation.
The joke depends on timing. “Save your file” is helpful before a crash; afterward, the person saying it has only restated the problem.

A South Park superhero with badly timed advice.
Captain Hindsight appears in “Coon 2: Hindsight,” season 14, episode 11 of South Park. The episode first aired on October 27, 2010. The show’s episode guide describes him as a rival drawing attention away from the Coon’s superhero team. [1]

Let the advice arrive one step too late.
Start with a concrete failure: a lost document, wet shoes, or a cake stuck in its tin. Follow it with the precaution that would have prevented exactly that outcome.
Keep the advice simple enough that nobody needed an expert to supply it. Long technical explanations can make the speaker sound useful.
