A girl reaches over a counter, opens her hand, and looks up expectantly. Use the three panels to show a small payment or effort followed by the much larger thing she hopes to receive.
The sequence works like a transaction: what is offered first, what actually lands on the counter, and what is requested in return. An uneven exchange creates the joke.
The hopeful expression in the final panel makes the request seem both confident and unreasonable. Keep the two counter captions short so the final demand carries the surprise.
The scene comes from “Angel’s Gaze,” episode 12 of Wataten!: An Angel Flew Down to Me, first broadcast in Japan on March 26, 2019. During a school play, Yuu Matsumoto buys a cookie from a character played by Hana Shirosaki. [1]
Know Your Meme records a March 31 post by Facebook page Ken’s Meme Shop, followed by an April 3 Reddit repost. Variations spread through Spanish-speaking anime communities and then through English-language meme posts during April. [1]
Write the intended payment on the upper tray and the actual contribution on the middle tray. Put the request in the open background at the top of the final panel.
Make the mismatch clear without a long explanation. One coin for the whole menu, or one test run for a bug-free release, gives the final smile a reason.
