Also called Horse Banister Comparison · Carved Horse vs. Toy Horse · Expectation vs. Reality Staircase
An elaborate carved horse forms one staircase’s banister; a toy horse strapped to a plain post supplies the cheaper imitation. Label the two sides to compare an ambitious idea with what actually gets made.
Both sides technically include a horse and a staircase. The joke comes from the enormous difference in effort, finish, and integration between the carved version and the improvised one.
Use the left side for the promise, reference, or imagined result. Use the right for the budget, deadline, first attempt, or literal interpretation that leaves the details behind.
Add one caption near the bottom of each picture. Keep the carved horse and the straps holding the toy visible, since those details explain the comparison.
The two labels should describe the same task at different stages or under different constraints. “The recipe photo” and “My attempt” makes a clearer joke than two unrelated names.
