The horse’s shaded rear half gives way to a roughly drawn front half. Label the contrast to show work that started carefully and ran out of time or attention.
The drop in detail is the punchline. The finished half can represent the opening of a project, the first item in a series, or the part that received all the effort.
This version reads from detailed on the left to rough on the right. Use that order for declining quality, or label the halves as two parts of the same uneven result.
Artist Ali Bati created the horse illustration for a Gursoy Art School advertising campaign. On his portfolio, he explains that the original improved in skill from left to right. Many meme versions flip it, changing the message from learning to a decline in quality. [1]
Know Your Meme documents this drawing in a March 18, 2018 r/funny post by marsel_zdr about running out of test time. A similar horse joke circulated in January 2017, but that earlier picture is listed as a precursor rather than this exact artwork. [2]
Label the detailed rear half on the left and the rough front half on the right. Short phrases leave enough of the drawing visible for the difference to be obvious.
Use concrete parts of one task, such as the opening slide and the rest of the deck. The viewer should be able to tell what received attention and what was hurried.
