Also called Squidward Waking Up · Squidward Eyes Open · Awake Squidward
Squidward goes from peacefully asleep to wide-eyed alarm. Put a reassuring thought beside the closed eyes and the detail that ruins it beside the open eyes.
The second line changes how you read the first. An alarm being set sounds reassuring until you notice that it is set for the evening instead of the morning.
The eyes can also show sudden interest. Use the top half for something you would normally ignore and the bottom half for the detail that gets your attention.
The two expressions come from the SpongeBob SquarePants episode Home Sweet Pineapple. Squidward opens his eyes after realizing that SpongeBob is in bed beside him. [1]
Meme versions separate the sleeping face from the startled reaction. This template puts both images on the right, leaving the white space on the left for the setup and realization. [1]
Write the calm thought in the upper white space and the surprise in the lower white space. Keep the eye close-ups clear: they carry the entire reaction.
A small correction is often enough. Change the time, the recipient, or the deadline rather than introducing a completely unrelated problem in the second panel.
