Also called Nyehhh Scroll · Scroll of Truth Comic · Uncomfortable Truth Scroll
An explorer finally finds the truth, reads it, and throws it away. Write the unwelcome fact on the blank scroll in the third panel; the rest of the comic supplies the rejection.
The reader wants an answer until the answer asks something of them. The final panel turns disappointment into a refusal to accept what the scroll says.
It works particularly well as a joke about your own habits: buying supplies without starting, collecting advice without following it, or waiting for work to do itself.
Artist Tate Parker, who posts as Robotatertot, published the comic Truth on Tumblr on February 2, 2017. The original scroll dismisses the importance of the explorer’s Facebook rants. [1]
A blank version appeared on 4chan on March 26, 2017, followed by edits that replaced the scroll’s message. The explorer’s discovery and angry rejection stayed in place while each new caption supplied a different unwelcome answer. [1]
The original comic appears on the artist’s Tumblr. [1]
Know Your Meme records a 4chan post with the message removed and edits appearing on Reddit. [1]
The format appears in gaming discussions and general humor communities. [1]
Add one sentence to the blank scroll in the lower-left panel. Keep the printed dialogue and the artist’s signature intact.
Pick a statement that undermines the explorer’s hopes. A short, plain fact works better than a long argument because the next panel immediately rejects it.
