Also called Morpheus Pills · The Matrix Choice · Red Pill Blue Pill Hands
Morpheus offers a red pill in one hand and a blue pill in the other. Give each a choice: face the answer or stay comfortable, try something new or stick with the familiar.
The two open hands make the decision feel final. The viewer has to choose between the options written beside them.
You can follow the film’s contrast between discovery and comfortable ignorance, or simply offer two everyday alternatives. The labels need to explain what each color means in your version.
The image comes from The Matrix (1999). Morpheus, played by Laurence Fishburne, offers Neo, played by Keanu Reeves, two pills. The red pill leads toward the truth about his world; the blue pill lets him return to his familiar life. [1] [2]
The choice became an online metaphor as well as a caption format. Know Your Meme documents both the truth-versus-ignorance meaning and later uses of red and blue objects to present a decision. [2] [3]
The scene supplies the two pills and their contrasting meanings. [2]
Know Your Meme cites an Urban Dictionary entry using red pill for an awakening to a claimed truth. This dates the phrase’s use, not the first captioned version of this image. [2]
This image has the red pill on the viewer’s left and the blue pill on the right. Write below the hands so both pills stay visible.
Keep the options parallel: two actions, two outcomes, or two ways to spend the same time. The contrast should be understandable before someone remembers the movie.
