The format

What does Peter Parker Crying mean?

Also called Peter Parker Cry · Jameson Laughing at Peter · Peter Parker Rejected

Peter makes a hopeful request, Jameson bursts out laughing, and Peter ends up in tears. Write the opening exchange and let the three reaction panels deliver the rejection.

This five-panel version turns a reasonable request into something the other person finds laughable. The pause before Jameson laughs makes the refusal feel especially harsh.

Peter’s final crying face exaggerates the disappointment. Use it when asking for a small favor, a break, or a fair deal gets a response that is much less sympathetic than expected.

Origin

An office exchange with an added crying reaction.

The office panels come from Spider-Man 2 (2004). Peter Parker, played by Tobey Maguire, asks J. Jonah Jameson for an advance, and J. K. Simmons’s Jameson laughs at the request. [1]

The final close-up comes from the earlier Spider-Man (2002), when Peter loses Uncle Ben. Meme makers added that separate reaction to the Jameson exchange; Know Your Meme documents a captioned combination on Imgflip in 2015. [2]

  2. Jameson laughs at the request

Caption guide

Write the request, then leave room for the reactions.

Place Jameson’s opening line in the empty space to his right in the first panel. Put Peter’s reply to his left in the second panel. Keep the last three panels free of captions for the pause, laughter, and tears.

The request should sound sincere. If Peter is obviously joking, Jameson’s laughter is an expected response and the final disappointment loses its point.

The opening question
Jameson’s line, to his right in the first panel.
Peter’s request
Peter’s reply, to his left in the second panel.
  • Keep each line short enough to read beside the face.
  • Give Peter a small, believable hope.
  • Let the final face do the work instead of writing “I am sad.”
