Also called Medieval Knight with Arrow in Eye Slot · Armored Knight Bad Luck · Prepared Knight
A knight looks fully protected until an arrow finds the helmet’s eye slot. Pair a confident preparation with the one detail it failed to cover.
The armor represents effort and preparation. The arrow turns one small opening into the thing that defeats the whole plan.
Use the top panel for what seemed secure and the bottom for the overlooked exception. The joke works best when the failure is specific rather than simply “everything went wrong.”
The upper image is charfade’s “Sept 17th Speed Paint Study,” posted to DeviantArt in September 2012. The artist describes it as a metal-and-armor study made in Photoshop. Know Your Meme traces its reference to an AilinStock knight photograph from 2011. [1] [2]
The arrow is a later edit. A version appeared on the DNDmemes Facebook page in February 2018, and later captions used the knight to represent preparation undone by bad luck. [2]
Put a short setup in the lower part of the first panel and the exception near the bottom of the second. Leave the helmet opening and arrow visible.
Choose a failure that defeats a specific precaution. Studying the whole textbook but missing one diagram is clearer than a general complaint about luck.
