Also called Happy Then Sad Kanye · Kanye Stops Smiling · Kanye Smile to Frown
Kanye smiles in the upper panel, then looks serious below. Put the good news first and the detail that wipes out the excitement second.
The two expressions turn a small change in information into an immediate change of mood. Tickets are available, then sold out; payday arrives, followed by rent.
The captions supply the reason for the shift. They can describe a quick letdown without making a claim about what West was actually thinking in the original clip.
These frames come from Kanye West’s appearance at the Cleveland Cavaliers–Golden State Warriors NBA Finals game on June 11, 2015. The broadcast caught him smiling in the crowd before his expression changed. [1] [2]
Coverage the next day shared the abrupt switch, following a similar moment at a Chicago–Cleveland game the previous month. The two-panel meme isolates the smile and serious look so captions can give the change a new cause. [1] [3]
Put the good news beneath the smile in the upper panel. Keep the second line especially short and close to the bottom edge, below the serious expression.
The pair should belong to one situation. Name the promising moment first, then reveal the catch. Two unrelated moods are harder to read than one piece of good news being undone.
