Wendy recoils from an axe in the first panel; Jack grins through the broken door in the second. Label the person trying to get some peace and the interruption that refuses to stay outside.
The two faces give you both sides of an unwanted arrival. Wendy can represent someone avoiding a task, while Jack represents the deadline, reminder, or distraction that keeps returning.
The scene makes even a harmless interruption feel overwhelming. A work message during a day off or the sound of an alarm gets the entrance of a horror villain.
The images come from Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 film The Shining. Jack Nicholson plays Jack Torrance and Shelley Duvall plays Wendy. Near the end of the film, Jack attacks the bathroom door with an axe while Wendy is trapped inside. [1]
After making a hole, Jack peers through it and delivers the line Here’s Johnny. The phrase refers to Johnny Carson’s introduction on The Tonight Show. This stacked template pairs Wendy’s alarm with Jack’s face at the door. [1] [2]
The bathroom-door sequence becomes one of the film’s most recognizable scenes. [1]
Put the first label on Wendy’s robe, below her face. Put the second in the light door area beside Jack. The labels should explain who wants to be left alone and what has found them.
You do not need to write dialogue for both characters. Short labels let readers follow the situation through the expressions and the broken door.
