What does Hiding from a Serial Killer mean?

Also called Serial Killer Speech Bubble Comic · Can’t Resist Answering · Nazzquipit Hiding Comic

A hiding person stays silent until the masked pursuer says something they cannot resist answering. Fill the two speech bubbles with a tempting prompt and the reply that gives the hiding place away.

The first two panels establish that silence matters. The last two reveal a habit, enthusiasm, or urge to correct someone that is stronger than the person’s self-control.

The reply should feel automatic. A familiar question, a favorite subject, or an irresistible offer can explain why someone forgets to stay quiet.

Origin

A call-and-response joke becomes a four-panel comic.

The joke format predates this drawing. Know Your Meme documents a December 14, 2016 tweet about accidentally answering a serial killer, followed by versions paired with a photograph of someone hiding. [1]

Filipino comic artist Nazzquipit posted the four-panel illustration on Facebook on December 27, 2017. Edits replaced the speech bubbles with new prompts and involuntary replies, spreading through Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit. [1]

How the meme spread

  1. The dialogue format appears on Twitter

A joke describes giving away a hiding place by answering a familiar prompt. [1]

  2. Nazzquipit draws the comic

The four panels give the setup, search, prompt, and response a visual sequence. [1]

  3. The speech bubbles get new exchanges

Different communities adapt the comic to their own familiar responses. [1]

Caption guide

Give the hiding person a reply they cannot hold back.

Put the pursuer’s prompt in the lower-left speech bubble. Put the hiding person’s answer in the smaller bubble at the lower right.

Use the first two panels as the silent setup. Keep the dialogue short, especially the answer, so it fits inside the bubbles without covering the faces.

The reply that gives them away
Inside the small lower-right speech bubble.
  • The lower-left bubble is the prompt.
  • The lower-right bubble is the accidental reply.
  • Make the response immediate and recognizable.
  • Keep the artist’s four-panel sequence intact.
