Label what is finished on the gravestone and what outlasted it on the smiling figure. The cheerful pose makes the end look like a victory.
The gravestone stands for a defeated plan, an obsolete habit, or something that is over. Gustin’s grin and peace sign stand for the thing that survived, replaced it, or caused its downfall.
The pairing gives the joke its meaning. “Bedtime” on the grave and “One more episode” on the figure makes a small everyday defeat look final.
The picture shows Grant Gustin, who plays the Flash, posing beside the prop grave of Arrow’s Oliver Queen. It is a photograph taken on a television set, rather than a candid image from a real funeral. [1]
Arrow actor Echo Kellum posted the photograph on Instagram on January 28, 2020. It quickly reached Reddit, where users added captions and labels to the figure and gravestone. [1]
Put the defeated idea on the flat center of the gravestone. Place the winning idea on the dark coat beside it, below the face and peace sign.
Use a short noun phrase for each label. The relationship should be clear without another caption explaining which one caused the other’s downfall.
