A tiny first step leads to an enormous result. Label the smallest domino and the largest one to show how a harmless decision got out of hand.
The pieces grow from tiny tiles beside the man’s hand to a tall slab at the left. Their increasing size turns a chain of events into a visual comparison between the cause and its eventual consequence.
The result can be good, bad, or simply excessive. A small hobby purchase might become a whole room of equipment; one useful shortcut might become your job.
University of Toronto physicist Stephen Morris posted the domino demonstration on October 4, 2009. A falling piece topples a larger one, allowing a small push to set off a much bigger result. [2] [1]
The still became an object-labeling format. Know Your Meme records a July 24, 2018 Reddit example by rabbitflyer5 and a wider wave of labeled versions in December that year. [2]
Stephen Morris shares the growing-domino chain reaction on YouTube. [2]
A Reddit post in r/PrincetonPhysMemes applies labels to the demonstration. [2]
Posts in r/dankmemes and r/MemeEconomy help circulate the still as a cause-and-effect template. [2]
Put the outcome on the tallest domino at the left. Place the trigger beside the tiny pieces near the man’s hand on the right. The action runs from right to left, even though the biggest label catches the eye first.
Choose a believable connection, then exaggerate its scale. Two labels are often enough; the unlabeled pieces let the viewer imagine the steps between them.
