D.W. faces a written warning and decides it cannot stop her because she cannot read it. Put the rule or advice being ignored on the large blank sign.
The joke turns a clear warning into an excuse to carry on anyway. D.W.’s confidence fits a person ignoring instructions that would interfere with what they want to do.
The sign can be practical advice rather than a literal prohibition. A bedtime reminder, tutorial prompt, or storage warning all give the defiant response something concrete to dismiss.
The scene comes from “D.W.’s Name Game,” a second-season Arthur episode first broadcast on April 16, 1998. Arthur puts a notice on his door excluding D.W., and she dismisses it because she cannot read. [1]
A two-panel image of the scene appeared on Tumblr in July 2012 and spread to other sites. By 2016, edits were replacing the door notice with new warnings while preserving D.W.’s reply. [1]
Put the main caption on the large yellow sign in the upper panel. The tiny sign below can stay blank; the second panel already carries D.W.’s response.
Use a brief instruction that clearly conflicts with the character’s intended behavior. Keep her face and the printed reply visible.
