Mac and Charlie rub their eyes in an exaggerated display of sympathy. Caption a small, predictable problem to make their fake concern the response.
The gesture says “poor you” while clearly meaning very little sympathy. It fits a boastful person facing a minor consequence or a problem someone helped create.
The target can be yourself. A self-directed joke about an unread manual or an impossible schedule keeps the mock concern playful.
The still comes from “Dennis and Dee Go on Welfare,” a season-two episode of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia first aired on July 6, 2006. Charlie Kelly and Mac are played by Charlie Day and Rob McElhenney. [1]
Dressed in formal clothes, they encounter Dennis and Dee after the pair have become addicted to crack cocaine. Their eye-rubbing is deliberately insincere. The later meme borrows that performance of concern for other complaints. [1]
Use one caption across the lower suits. Keep both faces and their hands visible; the eye-rubbing makes the sarcasm clear.
Try “Aww, did someone…” followed by an avoidable inconvenience. An overconfident gamer or your own unnecessary all-nighter works without repeating the show’s original subject.
